Balconies with a view of Volendam harbour

August 2010 – Situated right on the quayside around the harbour of the picturesque fishing village of Volendam is Brasserie Cathrien and, above it, a complex of apartments. Several of these apartments have recently been fitted with balconies. The steel of the balcony structures was galvanised at Verzinkerij Heerhugowaard, and two layers of powder coating were applied by Poedercoating Heerhugowaard. Now residents can enjoy the beautiful view permanently.

Brasserie Cathrien is part of Hotel Spaander, which is more than 125 years old. The brasserie used to be housed in a grand building with stepped gables. The building was demolished in 1996 and the site was redeveloped. The stepped gables hark back to the architectural styles of yesteryear. Above the brasserie is a complex of apartments, the residents of which have a panoramic view of Volendam harbour. Some of the apartments were fitted with balconies in the same style as the existing 'Juliet balconies', the better for the residents to enjoy the view. The new balcony structures were made by Vic Obdam Staalbouw of Obdam.
